Ophthalmic Surgeon:

Dr Anderson graduated from the University of Witwatersrand with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBCh) in 1982.He did his registrar for Ophthalmology training at St John’s Eye Hospital and the Johannesburg General Hospital and obtained a Fellowship in Ophthalmology from the South African College of Surgeons (FCSOphth(SA)) in 1990.

 

He spent time and wrote the surgical primary examination at the College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. He subsequently obtained a Fellowship from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) in the UK in 1991.

 

Dr Anderson has a passion for refractive surgery and he has been part of the refractive surgery revolution that has swept the world. Laser refractive surgery was introduced to South Africa in 1993 and Dr Anderson first performed PRK and LASIK in 1994. He has experienced the development and progression of LASIK over the past 18 years. He has experience with the several generations of excimer lasers including: Technolas®, Bausch & Lomb ®, LADARVision® and WaveLight Allegretto Eye-Q™.

 

Dr Anderson has international experience having worked in several overseas refractive surgery clinics in England, Scotland and Ireland.

  • Previous consultant Ophthalmologist at Greys and Edendale Hospitals

  • Refractive surgery since June1994 – several thousand LASIK and PRK cases done

  • Worked in specialised refractive surgery clinics in the UK - including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Reading, Bristol, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

  • Worked at Wellington Eye Laser Clinic in Dublin, Ireland

  • Worked in Cataract Surgery Units in the UK in London, Liverpool, Brighton, Carlisle and others

  • Has also worked in Canada and New Zealand

  • Member of organising committee for several congresses for the South African Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Ophthalmic Society of South Africa

  • Previous member of the Executive Committee (EXCO) for the Ophthalmic Society South Africa.

  • Regularly attends local and overseas Ophthalmic congresses

  • Organising committee for several local Ophthalmic Congresses

  • Currently the KZN representative for the South African Cataract and Refractive  Surgery Society
